Hi all!
I thought I’d do a bit of a round up of the projects I’m working on right now, and well as a bit of what I’ve just finished.
My proudest recent achievement is definitely learning how to knit socks. I spent months doing nothing else.
I’m doing a bit of simple embroidery too. This is actually a napkin that I found in Ikea’s ‘as is’ bin for $1.00. It has four lovely little motifs, I’ve done two so far, a teapot and two hares.
I finished embroidering a very cute little lady. The variegated floss is hand-dyed by Bathtub Studios and I found it on Etsy. It’s a real pleasure to use. Her ruffled underskirt is done in Bayeux stitch and I am very happy with how it turned out!
I’ve crocheted a couple of things too. This is a little circle vest for my lovely great-niece Miss. M.
And this is a very large blanket for my parents to cover their sofa with. I love the colour!
And the last tiny string project was this little hall runner. I needed a hall rug but I didn’t want to spend much money or put my own work on the floor so I bought two very cheap floor mats from Ikea stitched them together and did a little rough crewel embroidery on them for fun.
It took about an hour, cost around $8.00 CAD and does the trick nicely.
And that’s about it on the string front. I’m only doing really easy stuff because life has been extra demanding lately. My dad is battling both brain cancer and Parkinson’s right now and I have been helping my parents move back to Winnipeg to be closer to my sister and I. I don’t mind saying that it is a real relief to have them so close by. But it has really sapped my energy lately.
And I have developed a bit of a new obsession for nail polish. It’s so much fun playing with the colours! If you’re interested, here are some of my manicures below.

Hello Dearest Renata. It is so wonderful to hear that you are back into your string activities despite all the other stresses.I was wondering how you are doing. I love your projects as well. I’ve been unable to do much lately, Hand injury. I love looking at and dreaming about what I will do, when I can again. Your work is so free and colorful, I love color. For now I’m settling for a bit of very slow easy crochet. I am sorry to hear about your dad, but glad that you have them near you now.

Thought I’d check back in. Am crocheting again, but by bit. Working on cleaning out my sewing room. I had to rescreen my window, so I could put in a fan. That type of work makes my hand hurt, but all in all, it seems to strengthen it too. Hope to see more of your embroidery. I’m getting ready to get into some of mine.

Hi, I am glad to hear you are crocheting again! I am doing a bit of embroidery right now and just finished up an ENORMOUS crochet blanket for my parents to cover their sofa with. It;s 9×8 feet! Yikes. I’ll post pics when the embroidery is done. Happy needlework honey!

You might think it strange, all of you who read this blog even, but I read and re-read your posts to cheer myself up, things are so depressing to me living in the US now. I would so much like to imigrate myself!

I can understand that. Honestly, it’s pretty terrifying to be next door to the craziness. I guess all you can do is try to be strong and moral and embroider to feed your soul.

I am happy to say that at long last I’m back to crocheting. I’ve been working on appliqués to sew on some tops I bought. Red roses on one, and paisleys on the other, still working on hydrangeas for a third and Pansy’s when it’s finished. Most people can’t tell if it’s crochet or embroidery. I get a lot of compliments when I wear them which embarrasses me. It’s the first time in a long I’ve just let go and put something together.

It’s been sometime since I’ve read blogs, so this month I started reading some of them again. I hope you’re doing well and keeping up the crafting. Knitting, I can knit, I can even knit socks. I can’t knit for long though, I always go to sleep. It’s best for me to crochet or embroider or even sew. I can stay awake doing that. At this moment I’m winding thread. 20/2 rayon. It takes forever, when I get it done, I use it 3 strands at a time, you can get a lot of color variations with only three colors held in different numbers, it fascinates me for some reason.

I know what you mean about finding the colour possibilities inherent in a few strands of thread amazing!
As for me I am still crazy for knitting socks. I am working on pairs 17 and 18 right now as well as doing some needle tatting and embroidery, I am keeping busy;-)
